Home Sweet Home

Another card for a co-worker, Jeri, who just purchased a home.  Although these Lawn Fawn dies weren't specifically made for the Scalloped Pop-up Box, I was able to come up with a plan that seemed to work pretty well.

There are 3 layers as you move from front to back:
Row 1 - Spring flowers
Row 2 - Main Image (House and tree)
Row 3 - A row of buildings

I used two tree top dies to make clouds for the background sky.

The banner that is included in the Scalloped Pop-Up Box is ingenious.  Too, too cute!

I threaded some ribbon through the popped-up sentiment on the front of the box so the flaps could be contained if the recipient doesn't want to display the card in all of it's popped-up glory.

Since I typically case other projects and try to replicate them as closely as possible, I was pretty pleased with the design I came up with for this card.

More Co-worker Cards

A birthday card for Lynn, a retirement card for Sue and a special request by Lynn to make a housewarming tag for a friend of hers meant I was able to get my Art Impressions watercolor crafting on this week. (Supplies listed at end of post.)

First up, the housewarming tag. I didn't follow a specific tutorial for this tag, but am relatively pleased with how it turned out.  I cut the tag shape out of watercolor paper and again out of a colored cardstock.

The housewarming sentiment from the movie "It's a Wonderful Life" was printed on cardstock and mounted to the back of the tag.

Next up - the retirement card. Tricia O'Bin has posted a few tutorials recently on creating watercolor frames.  My card was modeled after hers.

This is a very simple design that could be used for many occasions. I corner rounded the finished design and mounted it on colored cardstock, also corner rounded. I'll be making more like this.

Lastly, a co-worker had admired the housewarming card I made a few weeks back and said she wanted a house card too. This time I added a Happy Birthday sentiment on the signpost.

I wasn't trying to make the house look like it's on a hill, but that's how it ended up.  Rather than just brush in the path, I tried to make it look more like a sidewalk. Not sure that I'm crazy about how it turned out.  The yard is very overgrown with grass and flowers.  I need to plan my white space better.  I am pleased with how the sky turned out on this one.

All in all, it was a pretty productive Art Impressions watercolor week for me. What's really nice is how much I am enjoying this process.

Two Cards for Co-Workers

I needed two cards for co-workers, and rather than run to the store like I usually do, in spite of the craft room full of supplies I have, I went the handcrafted route.  Supplies for both are listed below.

The first card is for a co-worker, Stephanie, who has accepted a wonderful job opportunity at another Library. She will be missed.

Inspiration for this card was taken from Amy Sheffer, Pickled Paper Designs, PTI Release Post, https://tinyurl.com/q9j2nlq.

Amy's sample used the Hooray stamp set, which I do not (yet) own, but luckily I did have the Hooray patterned paper pack, which made for very quick assembly.

The second card is for a co-worker who just lost a loved one. I had this project idea saved to a Pinterest board for awhile now. https://tinyurl.com/y7w6ywwl

A very light green Stampin Up pastel chalk was used on the leaves on the embossed tree. These photographed much darker than the color appears in person. This card also went together quickly.

Art Impressions Challenge 217 - Watercolor Wonders - Happy Mail

This is my second entry for the Art Impressions Watercolor Wonders Challenge.

I thought I would challenge myself to create a project without benefit of following along with one of the Art Impressions' Watercolor Wednesday tutorials, however I did use the instructions in the Project Series 5 booklet. I think I'm still at the follow along with the tutorial stage.   (Supplies listed below.)

I couldn't locate my Molotow Masking Liquid until after I started my project, so I just left some open spaces when adding the green background and vines so I'd have some white space available when I added the flowers..

Take aways from this project - I'm still overworking the sky and I need to improve my shadowing when adding color from the palette. I also lost some of my lines when I stamped the image (not enough ink on the stamp pad and overworking things when pulling color from the lines.)

I still have a long way to go, but even seeing all of the areas for improvement, the final product still makes me happy.

Art Impressions Challenge 217 - Watercolor Wonders

This is my first blog post as well as my first time participating in an Art Impressions Challenge.

I love the little bunnies in the Art Impressions Bunnies set and thought the Watercolor Wednesday tutorial #62 - Stump with Bunny would make an adorable tag to accompany some Easter treats for my co-workers.

I am still a newbie when it comes to watercoloring the Art Impressions way, or watercoloring any way for that matter, so I'll be following Bonnie's tutorials before I branch out too far on my own.

Please pardon the photo quality too.  I'm still trying to find the best lighting to avoid shadows.

I created six "paintings", die cut them with Spellbinders dies and mounted them on patterned paper.
(supply list below)

I stamped an Easter sentiment on the back, accented with the long stem flowers used on the main image.
